1. favorite fic you wrote this year

Ooo. Hmmmm. You know what, for completed fics, I’m proudest of The Traveler, especially since it started out as an idea for Killervibe Week in June and was only supposed to be a chapter or two. I got to research Pilgrim days, I got to write hilarious rambling chapter headings right out of Tristram Shandy, and I got to throw down a monster surprise twist in there.

12. favorite character to write about this year 

You’re gonna make me choooooooooooooose? Okay, I’ll have to go with Cisco Ramon. Often, the show thinks he’s just wacky comic relief that luckily happens to have powers that are useful to Barry, so I found myself writing a lot about stuff that’s … none of the above.

25. a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read

You know what, here’s one I never shared on my fic recs here, because it’s neither Star Wars nor the Flash. Instead, it’s a random fic that I ran across somehow and figured what the hey, I’ll try it.

That Blessed Arrangement by pepperfield at AO3 is a Venom fanfic, and I really can’t improve on the summary. “Venom is well aware that they live in a romantic comedy. Eddie isn’t, but he’ll get the picture eventually.” I know. I know! It’s delightful and adorable and it melted my cold, cold heart. And I haven’t even seen the movie. Although I will now.

Hard one! But I think I liked best the extended New Year’s Day scene in Living for Today. I really wanted to expand some on the family that Cisco was given in canon. I hoped to show that even though he has beef with his parents, he still loves them, in the complicated way that you love family.  I also wanted him to have extended family that he is close to, that have written some of his identity, and that would remember him after he’s gone. Plus it was a chance to write down the kind of convivial, nosy, crowded, affectionate special occasions that the Latinx side of my family is prone to.

I had to double-check some of the more colloquial Spanish with native speakers, because I didn’t grow up fluent, but overall I’m pretty proud of it.
